About Wes McMaster


Wes is regarded as an expert in the rules and principles governing financial advice as well the dynamics of financial advice businesses. He provides financial advice to individuals and specialises in measuring and managing risk and return in investment portfolios.

Wes McMaster is well known in the financial planning industry throughout Australia. He is highly sought after as a consultant in the financial services industry on issues associated with financial advice and financial advice businesses.

He built his own financial planning business and managed it for 16 years. He was also the CEO of two large national financial planning businesses owned by ING.  He now owns a financial planning business with clients in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

He is a former Chairman of the Financial Planning Association of Australia. During his period as a director of the FPA, he contributed a great deal to the principles that have emerged in the Corporations Act 2001 governing financial advice in Australia.

He has trained business managers and financial planners and has assisted and advised many people in the establishment and management of financial advice businesses.

He has delivered courses and lectures on Wealth Management and Financial Planning in Universities in Australia, China, Singapore and Malaysia.

Wes has also developed a reputation among the leading law firms in Australia as an expert in the rules governing financial advice.  His paper on the Relevant Standards for Financial Advice is used as a reference in litigation and some of the principles in the paper have become Common Law as a result of evidence given by Wes.
